Assessment of Public Willingness to Pay for Solid Waste Management in Yangon, Myanmar

Posted on 4 January, 202114 January, 2021 by research
        By Mya Lwin Lwin Aung
Summary: This study aimed to assess the willingness to pay of the local communities in urban and suburban Yangon for waste disposal management. It explored the current solid waste management (SWM) program in the targeted city’s central business district (CBD) and its periphery. The study also gauged the residents’ level of knowledge of the importance of a SWM program, and determined the respondents’ willingness to pay for SWM services and the socioeconomic factors (e.g., education, age, type of occupation, earnings, and years of residence) that affect their willingness by using the survey method. Contingent evaluation with socioeconomy and attitude in the suburban region were also surveyed to supplement findings in the targeted urban area.
